Tamil Nadu Private Bus Owners to Observe Statewide Strike on September 30
Chennai: Private bus owners across Tamil Nadu have announced a one-day statewide strike on September 30, demanding that the free travel scheme currently available on government buses be extended to private buses as well.
Under the proposed arrangement, private bus associations are seeking permission for women, transgender persons and persons with disabilities to travel free of charge on private buses. The associations have also demanded that the government provide financial compensation or subsidies to private bus operators to cover the revenue loss resulting from the scheme.
Private bus operators have also raised concerns about increasing operating costs. They have pointed to rising diesel prices, spare-parts costs, maintenance expenses and other financial pressures affecting the private bus sector.
According to the announcement, private buses across Tamil Nadu will remain off the roads for 24 hours, from midnight on September 29 until midnight on September 30.
The proposed strike could affect daily commuters, including college students, office employees and members of the public who depend on private buses for transportation. Passengers have been advised to check the availability of government and private bus services in advance and plan their travel accordingly.
The strike is being announced as a demonstration of the private bus operators’ demands, particularly regarding the extension of free travel benefits and compensation for the resulting financial impact on private bus services.
