CIET and COZCENA Organise First Sathish Kumar–Prabhakaran Memorial Inter-Engineering Quiz

SATHISH KUMAR PRABHAKARAN MEMORIAL QUIZ ORGANISED BY CIET AND COZCENA

The first edition of GT Sathish Kumar Memorial and S Prabhakaran Memorial was conducted at Coimbatore Institute of Engineering and Technology (CIET) on Engineers Day, September 15 2026. The annual memorial event was arranged by the II Batch of Students of B.E. Civil Engineering of  CIET who studied from 2012-2016. The event was hosted in memory of two of their batchmates, GT Sathish Kumar and S Prabhakaran who had passed away owing to two road accidents. The event was supported by CIET and Coimbatore Zone Civil Engineers Association(COZCENA) as a part of their Annual Engineers Day Celebrations. 

The Annual Inter Engineering Quiz Competition saw the participation of 19 teams(2 students per team) from different institutions namely Al Ameen Engineering College, Akshaya College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore Institute of Engineeringu and Technology, Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Karpagam College of Engineering and KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology. The 19 teams were put through a written preliminary round that tested their knowledge of Civil Engineering through 20 questions in 30 minutes. 6 out of the 19 teams participated in the Interactive Finals The Finals had 6 rounds namely Technically Speaking, Unjumble, Rapid Setting Round, Dual Nature Picture Round and Filler Round. After a well contested finals, the following teams emerged as prize winners

First Place - NARENDRAN L and NAGASUMITHIRAN R - Government College of Technology

Second Place - MADHAN T & DEVIKA M - Government College of Technology 

Third Place - Dhivya Dharshan J and Chandru K M - Coimbatore Institute of Engineering and Technology

The quiz programme was curated by Mr Rathnavel Ponnuswami. 

The winners were recognised with a special shield, certificate and cash prizes. The first, second and third place winners won cash prize of Rs 3000, 2000 and 1000 respectively. The prize distribution was done by Dr K Manikanda Subramaniam, Principal, CIET and Er VP Palanisamy, President, COZCENA. Mr.Vignesh of 2012-16 Batch and Dr. P. Magudeswaran, HoD, Department of Civil Engineering, CIET oversaw the arrangements. 

Mr Pandiarajan and Mr.Ramanathan of 2012-16 batch mentioned that their batch had successfully completed a decade after passing out of the institution. They wanted to do something to give back to the institution. They also wanted to establish a legacy in name of their beloved classmates. We had this idea all of a sudden, and our group came together quickly to fit the pieces. We will ensure the annual conduct of this Inter Engineering College Civil Engineering Quiz Contest during Engineers Day. We started the first edition with colleges in Coimbatore and we will hopefully keep growing to make it an international event in another decade or so. Mr.Pavithran of the batch thanked CIET, COZCENA, Quiz Master Mr Rathnavel and all participants for ensuring smooth conduct of the event.
