Concern Over Groundwater Levels in Coimbatore Amid Limited Rainfall
Limited rainfall in Coimbatore has raised concerns among residents in areas dependent on borewells, although recent official groundwater-level data for specific localities is unavailable.
Coimbatore: Concerns over groundwater availability have emerged in some parts of Coimbatore amid limited rainfall in recent weeks, particularly among residential areas that depend heavily on borewells for their water needs.
Residents in areas including Ramanathapuram, Singanallur and Ondipudur have reportedly faced difficulties in accessing adequate water from borewells. Local residents have raised concerns about the availability of groundwater as rainfall remains limited.
According to information from the India Meteorological Department’s Coimbatore centre, no rainfall was recorded in Coimbatore during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on September 25. The weather forecast indicates generally cloudy conditions with the possibility of light rain over the coming days.
However, recent official data showing the exact groundwater levels in specific areas of Coimbatore is not available. Therefore, it cannot be conclusively stated that groundwater levels are rapidly declining across the particular localities mentioned.
The limited rainfall has nevertheless highlighted the importance of continued monitoring of both rainfall patterns and groundwater levels. Authorities and residents may need to keep track of local water availability, particularly in areas where households depend primarily on borewells.
Further rainfall in the coming days could help improve groundwater recharge, although the extent of any improvement would depend on the amount and distribution of rainfall across the city and surrounding areas.
