College Student Dies of Suspected Heart Attack During Trek at Velliangiri Hills in Coimbatore

A tragic incident occurred at the scenic Velliangiri Hills in Coimbatore, where a 23-year-old college student lost his life during a trekking expedition on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as S Mukesh Kumar (23), a native of Dharmapuri district. He was residing in a rented accommodation near Telugupalayam while pursuing a Pharm D course at a private college in the area.

According to sources, Mukesh Kumar, along with eight of his friends, began their trek late Thursday night around 10 PM. The group reached the fifth hill by approximately 2 PM the next day. At that point, Mukesh reportedly complained of severe chest pain and suddenly collapsed.

Despite immediate concern from his friends, he passed away on the spot before any medical assistance could be provided.

His friends promptly alerted forest department officials, who rushed to the location. With considerable effort, forest personnel brought down the body from the difficult terrain.

The Tamil Nadu Forest Department coordinated the rescue operation, while the Alanthurai Police Station registered a case and have launched an investigation into the incident.

Authorities are expected to conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, though initial reports suggest a possible heart-related issue.

This incident has once again raised concerns about trekking safety and the need for proper health checks before undertaking physically demanding activities like hill trekking.
