CJP Gives CEC Gyanesh Kumar 48 Hours to Resign, Warns of Nationwide Protest

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign within 48 hours and has warned of nationwide protests if the demand is not met.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka made the demand during a press conference in New Delhi on September 24, 2026. The party said it would launch a nationwide agitation, including a proposed “Jantar Mantar 2.0” protest, if the CEC does not step down within the deadline.

The demand comes amid controversy surrounding the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. CJP has alleged irregularities in the way electoral-roll decisions are being processed and has called for greater transparency regarding the exercise. These allegations are claims made by the party and have not been independently established.

CJP has also called for an independent inquiry into the Election Commission’s centralised system for processing electoral-roll decisions. The party has demanded that the SIR exercise be frozen and has raised concerns about the impact of voter-list changes on citizens’ voting rights.

The controversy follows reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections regarding aspects of the electoral-roll revision process. The Election Commission has rejected the suggestion that these reported objections indicate a division within the three-member poll panel.

According to the CJP’s announcement, the 48-hour deadline issued to Gyanesh Kumar will expire on September 26. The party has said that it will proceed with nationwide protests if its demand is not met.
