India captain Shubman Gill produced a historic batting performance against the West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati, smashing an unbeaten 223 runs off just 133 balls as India chased down a target of 406.
Gill's sensational innings included 26 fours and 8 sixes, powering India to 406/2 in 43.3 overs and an eight-wicket victory over the West Indies.
The knock also saw Gill create multiple records. His 223* is now the highest individual score in a successful ODI run chase, surpassing the previous record of 201* held by Glenn Maxwell.
Gill also made history by completing his double century in just 117 balls, making it the fastest double century in men's ODI cricket. He broke Ishan Kishan's previous record of reaching 200 in 126 balls.
The 223* also made Gill only the second batter in men's ODI history to score multiple double centuries, joining Rohit Sharma. Gill had previously scored 208 against New Zealand in 2023.
Earlier in the chase, Rohit Sharma scored 101 off 75 balls, registering his 35th ODI century. Gill and Rohit put together a massive 255-run opening partnership, setting the foundation for India's record chase.
With Gill remaining unbeaten on 223, India completed the 406-run chase with 39 balls to spare, securing an eight-wicket victory and taking an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
