Rising temperatures across Tamil Nadu are signaling the onset of peak summer, with heatwave-like conditions beginning to intensify in several regions, including Coimbatore.
Nearby Chennai has already recorded temperatures above 36°C, indicating a broader warming trend across the state. Weather experts attribute the spike to dry westerly winds and a delayed sea breeze, which typically helps cool coastal and inland areas.
In Coimbatore, residents can expect daytime temperatures ranging between 35°C and 38°C, with hot and uncomfortable afternoons likely over the next few days. However, the city may experience slightly milder conditions compared to coastal regions due to its proximity to the Western Ghats.
Meanwhile, areas along the Western Ghats, including regions near Velliangiri Hills and Mettupalayam, could witness isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. This is due to a trough system currently active over interior Tamil Nadu, which is expected to bring some relief to hill-adjacent areas.
